Spot price is the live market price of gold or silver at that moment. It’s the baseline reference price you’ll often see quoted online or in the news.
Melt value is what your item’s precious metal content is actually worth based on:
Purity (karat or fineness)
Weight
Current spot price
Most jewelry and coins are not pure metal, so melt value is usually lower than spot price. We’ll explain exactly how your item’s value is calculated during your appraisal.
-
Karat (k) tells you how pure the gold is.
10k gold = 41.7% pure gold
14k gold = 58.3% pure gold
18k gold = 75% pure gold
The higher the karat, the higher the gold content — which affects value. During your appraisal, we’ll test and verify the karat so you know exactly what you have.
-
The value depends on several factors:
Purity (karat or fineness)
Weight
Condition
Current market prices
Whether an item has collectible or numismatic value
The fastest and most accurate way to know is to bring your items in for a free appraisal. We’ll walk you through the evaluation and give you a clear offer with no pressure to sell.
-
Value is influenced by:
Metal content (gold or silver purity)
Weight
Market price at the time of appraisal
Condition
Collectibility (for certain coins or estate pieces)
Removable components (such as gemstones)
If something may be worth more sold another way, we’ll tell you — transparency matters to us.
-
“Junk silver” (also called constitutional silver) refers to older U.S. coins that contain silver but are typically valued for their metal content rather than rarity.
Examples include:
Pre-1965 U.S. dimes, quarters, and half dollars
Even though the name sounds misleading, these coins still contain real silver and can carry meaningful value. We’ll quickly verify what you have and explain how it’s priced.
-
No appointment is required for most walk-in appraisals.
If you’re handling:
A large collection
An estate
A higher-value transaction
Or prefer added privacy
We’re happy to schedule an appointment — including secure meeting options when appropriate.
-
Item In most cases, yes.
If you accept the offer, payment is typically completed right away. Larger transactions may be handled by check depending on the amount, and we’ll explain that upfront so there are no surprises.description
